Smith & Wesson produced 700 of these and later the Volcanic Arms Company assembled 500 of them from 1855 - 1857. The serial number was found on the following parts: toggle, finger lever, inside the grips, and on the inside of the side panels. This is a Type I with the flat muzzle and flat spring. Half-round half-octagon barrel with a 6-shot magazine. Engraved with bag style handle and 2-piece wood grip panels. CONDITION: Gun has no finish left and There is scattered pitting across the gun. There is traces of the lands and grooves in the bore. Grip panels are original to the gun and show normal handling marks. REW
