Pair of hammer underlever boar rifles made for Prince Alfons, House of Wittelsbach, Bavaria. These rifles have 24 - 1/2" blued fluid steel chopper lump barrels with extractors, doll's head rib extensions, full length ribs fit with one standing, one folding rear sight, and silver bead fronts. Top of ribs are gold inlaid "MILLER & VAL. GREISS IN MÜNCHEN" in script. Breech ends of the barrels have dual gold bands. Front sling swivel fit to bottom of barrels. The bottom of the left barrels have their respective serial numbers (A) "21601" and (B) "22147" and the flats of the barrels have appropriate German black powder proof marks. The (A) rifle is marked "1" on its rear lump. Flip-up peep rear sights are set into their top tangs. Round bodied actions fit with double set triggers, front pivoting horn handled opening levers and peninsula locks with rebounding hammers that have a spur on top. Actions and locks are engraved with tight scrolls with borders. Trigger guard bows have relief gold inlaid with "A" under prince's crown. Trigger guards have scroll carved horn extensions forming grip. The actions water tables have German proofs and the (A) "1". European walnut buttstocks with cheekpieces on left, checkered grips and measuring (A) 13 - 3/4" and (B) 13 - 11/16" to engraved steel butt plates with their respective serial number engraved towards toe of buttplate. On toe lines ahead of sling swivels the stocks are numbered (A) "1" and (B) "2". Splinter forends have matching checkering to buttstock, horn tip inserts, engraved oval toward front with their respective numbers in gold (A/1) "1" and (B/2) "2" with Deeley type lever release. Weight: (A) 6 lbs. 11 oz. (B) 6 lbs. 12 oz. CONDITION: Very Good. Barrels retain over 82% of bluing with freckling and silvering at the muzzles. Bores are good to very good. Actions and locks retain a nice patina of their original case hardening colors. Stocks have numerous light marks and scratches. Actions are tight. Locks are excellent. Included with rifle is an inscribed plaque with information on the rifles and provenance. A great pair of rifles to add to one's collection, the quality of workmanship appropriate for a client of royalty. (CP)
