Lot consists of: 4 swords; 2 U.S., 1 U.S. or British, 1 pre-war French short sword. (A) M1872 Cavalry officer's saber. Standard configuration. Nice deep color sharkskin grip with wire in place, deeply cast and chased brass hilt with leaves, U.S. shield, Eagle and stars on sunburst background, etc. Blade with bright finish and vivid etching. M.C. Lilley & Co. maker address. Geometric and floral motifs with stand of arms with US flag and shield, and central U.S. on obverse. Reverse with similar floral elements, cannon, shield, flags, and halberd at bottom, U.S. Eagle as central motif. Walking bear blade mark of Abraham Kuller zu Wald, active 1847-1880 (Bezdek.) CONDITION: Sword, Excellent. Bright blade. Some staining to hilt but substantial gilt remaining. Scabbard shows wear to plating with substantial surface brown obverse upper half. Scattered brown and staining reverse. (B) Lion pommel saber with leather grip and wire. No scabbard. Blade is bright. Etching vivid. Guard cast with floral motifs. Blade etched with floral elements, knight, shield, and halberds, etc. "First Lieutenant R.D. Bizell' center obverse. Repeated heraldic motifs with U.R. and K.P., once with F.C.B. and K.P. Possibly British or Canadian. CONDITION: Very good. Age patina to hilt. Minor scuffs to leather. (C) Very U.S.N. 1852 pattern officer's sword. Postwar thinner blade. Joseph Starkey Conduit St. London address reverse ricasso. Standard configuration with Eagle and stars on pommel cap, USN banner in oak leaves and acorn openwork guard, serpent head quillon, sharkskin wire bound grip. Blade etched geometric and floral with shield and anchor, oval of stars, and stand of arms obverse; reverse with Eagle under glory, fouled anchor, USN banner scroll, and knotted cable entwined with vine. Black leather scabbard with brass mounts. Knotted cable ring bands, serpent on drag. CONDITION: About excellent. Only flaw is slight play in the pommel and some very small thin brown stains that will likely clean on the lower blade near the hilt. (D) French 1831 pattern artillery short sword, unmarked, in incorrect scabbard. Medium matching tone to brass hilt and mounts. Blade with good edge and point. Mixed gray and dark grey spotting. Scabbard is too wide for the sword and likely from a hewer but has French-style button stud. CONDITION: Very good.
