Colt Model 1848 Third Model Dragoon single action percussion revolver with holster. Made 1851. "ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW-YORK CITY" on the barrel. "COLTS/PATENT/U.S." marked on the left side of the frame. Matching serials on the barrel assembly, trigger guard and butt. Half round, half octagon barrel with silver blade front sight. Metal components have a light coat of reapplied finish. Unplated brass trigger guard and grip straps. Cylinder bears no engraved scene or markings, making it a probable replacement. Gun comes with a period Gaylord brown leather flap holster, marked "GAYLORD/CHICOPEE" on the back side of the belt loop. CONDITION: Metal retains 50% of its finishes with light wear. Grip straps show signs of cleaning. Grips have handling marks and scratches. Bore has some light frosting, but retains strong rifling. Tight hammer and cylinder. Tight hammer and cylinder. Mechanically fine. Holster is fair to good, with wear and crazing. Strap is ripped and heavily worn. Stitching remains tight. JWA
