Earlier variation of the New Land Pattern, made circa 1808, with flat lockplate instead of later stepped plate. These were produced and used during the Napoleonic Wars by Cavalry units. Smooth round barrel with British proofs, including a clear "(Crown) / GR / (Broad Arrow)" and a less clear "(Crown) / (Crossed Scepters)", retained by a single wedge. Small "(Crown)" proof over breech, "(Crown) / 44" proof stamped on right side. Flat lockplate is stamped with "(Crown) / GR", with offset "(Crown) / (Broad Arrow)". Rear with "TOWER" and a small sprig of decoration at tail. Bridled waterproof pan. Reinforced cock. Roller bearing frizzen. Captive swivel ramrod with indistinct Crown marking. Left side of the stock, opposite lock, with Broad Arrow in a circle. Appropriate brass furniture. CONDITION: Very good, with metal have an attractive oil-stained appearance, with some normal marks from handling and use, including two strikes to the muzzle face. Stock is good and free of cracks but with some expected chips and pings from handling and use. Brass furniture is very good, retaining a pleasing mustard color patina. Mechanically operable, bore is very good with a minimum of oxidation. EMW
