December 14-17, 2021 Collectible Firearms & Militaria
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/14/2021
Lot consists of 5 larger and 6 smaller tree fragments with lodged bullets. All are from the Wilderness, noted by the collector as gathered from remnants of pine wood breastworks on the Orange Turnpike and Saunders Field in the 1960s before the area was taken over by the Park Service and cleared. 2 of the smaller pieces are not much larger than the bullets themselves, the others are more substantial. None have been varnished or treated. Bullet strikes in wood were valued by the veterans themselves as evidence of the intensity of the fire they endured in combat. CONDITION: Good. Battlefield pickups.
