December 14-17, 2021 Collectible Firearms & Militaria
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/14/2021
Lot consists of 2 excavated Confederate buckles. (A) Confederate forked-tongue or "wishbone" buckle. One of the standard general service belt buckles probably worn by the majority of Confederate enlisted men, along with single tongue versions and fixed tongue frames. CONDITION: Very good with nice, even greenish gray patina. Very slight bend to one long bar near the cross bar. Tongue shows characteristic even slating curves to the prongs. India ink on white collection number on reverse. (B) Very scarce Confederate carbine sling buckle. Diminutive version of the U.S. pattern. Both tongues in place. India ink collection number on reverse and Manassas find location. CS made carbine slings are extremely scarce. The few surviving examples are cloth, not requiring a heavy, Federal style buckle. This would make a great addition to a Confederate cavalry display.
