This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/14/2021
Two southern state buttons excavated from Civil War sites, both with backs and shanks intact and collector inventory numbers. The North Carolina has a faint backmark and measures approximately 23mm. The AVC has lots of gilt finish remaining and is backmarked "D. Evans & Co. / Extra Rich" and measures approximately 15mm, see Tice AB210A1. The AVC button is accompanied by documentation from the consigner that states the AVC button was dug from a Dumfries Alabama camp. CONDITION: The AVC is an exceptionally nice example made in 1860 or early 1861 for the state’s “Volunteer Corps,” organized in 1860, and features the eagle with upswept wings. Very good excavated condition, as shown.
