Generally considered to be the world's first GPMG (General Purpose Machine Gun), the MG-34 was designed to provide the German military with a portable machine gun that could support infantry either in a light or medium machine gun role, be utilized in an anti-aircraft role, and even be used in static defenses such as bunkers. This example was manufactured by TNW and is comprised of a newly manufactured receiver that fires from a closed bolt, as well as wartime and post-war surplus components. The left side of the receiver is stamped "TNW" within an oval followed by "SEMI AUTO MG 34/ VERNONIA OR. 8mm". Receiver cover is stamped "938" above eagle over "WaA497" and "WaA4" waffenamts. External components bear various waffenamt codes. 8mm barrel is of post-war manufacture. Leather sling is unmarked. CONDITION: Metal components retain the majority of their reapplied blue finishes, exhibiting some scattered areas of light wear, as well as areas of light oxidation on the barrel shroud. Bore is dark and retains strong rifling throughout. Buttstock shows some scattered handling marks and impressions, with a small loss towards the bottom, but otherwise is sturdy and serviceable. A very nice example of a desirable semi-automatic version of one of the Second World War's most iconic machine guns. MLW
