Measures 15 - 5/16" from kissaki to munemachi. Iori mune, chu kissaki. Shinogi zukuri with a medium sori. Mokume hada with an active gunome hamon with thick nie. Nakago with 3 mekugi-ana, 2 overlaid on each other. Signature reads Katsuie Fujiwara Saku. Nakago with no visible yasurime. Hi appears to be an ato-bi as it is only on one side. Gilt copper habaki with an unusual lowered ridge. Tsuba with remnants of shakudo depicting mountains and florals. Fuchi with punched designs reminiscent of cracked ice, tsuka ito with a lacquered wire wrap and floral menuki with shakudo highlights. Plain black roiro saya with slots for both kozuka and kogai. Kozuka signed in 5 characters, and depicting various aspects of sea life on a roe background. Kogai unsigned and depicting what looks like bamboo and birds in flight. CONDITION: Blade is in good polish with scattered ware and shintetsu. Mounts are very good with some marks from handling and age but complete. A few strands of the wire wrap looks to be replaced. Kogai is very good with some darkness towards top, kozuka with some darkness on blade but legends are crisp. Some ware on kozuka blade. An attractive blade. EMW
