Classic shinogi-zukuri form with a shallow sori, measuring 24 - 1/8" from kissaki to munemachi. Hamon is a gunome midare pattern. Nakago is signed in four characters on left side of Nakago "Nagamura Kiyonobu" (cf: Slough, "Oshigata Book of Modern Japanese Swordsmiths, 1868-1945", pg. 85), with takanoha yasurime. Saya is wrapped in black leather with two hangers (generally indicative of naval use), more rectangular than normally seen. Leather wrapping is certainly old and very likely period. Army style mounts, tsuba with hold in left side for leather snap. Other mounts are standard floral decorations with a roe pattern, chrysantheum themed menuki, and a sarute. CONDITION: Blade is good with an amateur polish having left some areas of surface scratches and obscuring hamon. Some fine pitting is visible on left side of blade, just above habaki and below yokote. Saya with numberous scrapes and use marks that reveal brown leather. Tsuba, tsuka-ito, fuchi, and kashira are worn, darkening of metal and some verdigris beginning to form on brass. Same has some breaks, but tsuka is tight. A well presenting sword with clear indications of use. EMW
