Measures 18 - 5/8" from kissaki to munemachi. Iori mune. Shinogi-zukuri form. 2 piece habaki. Suriage mumei nakago with single drilled mekugi-ana and kiri nakagojiri. Tsuba with florals at corners with pierced through decoration. Fuchi, kashira, and sarute of normal floral-and-roe pattern. Chrysanthemum menuki. Tsuka-ito a later rewrap. Short saya with textured body, koiguchi with a relief chrysanthemum, koijiri with chrysanthemum over roe pattern. Ashi looks to be a later production one, with less definition than normally encountered and spaced with what appears to be twisted wire. CONDITION: Blade is out of polish with numerous surface scratches from polishing and some spotted oxidation. One area of chipping to cutting edge under the kissaki. Mounts are good, tsuba looks to be regilt. Fuchi and kashira with gilt corners, showing much of the copper base. Saya has a 3 - 1/2" split that appears stable and some chipping to textured finish; mounts are dark from exposure. EMW
