Measures 24 - 7/16" from kissaki to munemachi, with an iori mune. Traditional shinogi zukuri form with a medium sori and torii zori curvature. Nakago with 3 mekugi-ana, 2 filled with copper, third appears to be drilled for when mounted in shin gunto, katte agari yasurime, and ha agari kurijiri. Hamon is partially obscured but looks to be suguha or a very gentle notare, hada obscured. Copper habaki with vertical striations. Tsuba of typical shin gunto design with pierced through decoration. Fuchi, kashira, koijiri, koiguchi, ashi, and semegane are in their traditional floral over roe patterns, while sarute is a simple iron replacement. CONDITION: Blade is out of polish with some pitting under the polish and heavy clouding. Mounstt are very good with pebbled texture saya. Tsuka ito with heavy hand rubbing and some looseness; kashira and menuki a possible period replacement as it differs in color from balance of mounts. Some gilting is visible on mounts, but primarily in protected areas, with rubbing to copper throughout. Saya is excellent, with some scrapes under the ashi and an unusual "ripple" near koijiri that looks that a repaired bend. A nicely presenting sword that would benefit from a good polish. EMW
