Of shinogi zukuri form, measuring 24 - 5/8" from kissaki to munemachi. Bohi that stops in line with the munemachi. Temper line looks to be a gentle gunome midare but sword is out of polish and there are spots where hamon is difficult to see; similarly, hada appears mokume but disappears in spots. Nakago is unsigned and nakagojiri is of ha agari kurijiri form; 2 mekugi-ana with 1 punched and 1 drilled. Standard tsuba with floral decoration and roe pattern. Simple copper fuchi. Kashira with floral decoration and roe; sarute not present. Chrysanthemum menuki. Leather wrapped saya with slot for single ashi and retained by 3 snaps (1 appears replaced). Koiguchi replaced with simple copper strip. CONDITION: Blade is rough and has been amateurly polished, obscuring some finer details and has significant ware and fukure. Mounts have lost most gilding but are complete, ito has some looseness at a few straps; same with a break on right side. Saya leather is pliable with some scrapes, crazing, and a minor separation at rear seam but attractive. While somewhat tired, this is a neat example of an old blade in gunto mounts. EMW
