Traditional shinogi-zukuri form with no visible hada or hamon. Measures 26 - 1/8" from kissaki to munemachi. Nakago with single mekugi-ana, and is dated March, 1944 on left side and signed Masayuki in 2 characters on right with kate sagari yasurime. Tsuka with later kansuke-maki wrap that was done to expedite the process of wrapping, with chrysanthemum menuki. Tsuka has been lacquered at some point with some unidentified compound. World War II mounts including tsuba with florals (1 seppa appears to be replaced with aluminum example which spaces sword correctly). Fuchi, kashira, kojiri, ashi, koiguchi, and semegane with appropriate floral over roe designs, while sarute is floral decroated en suite without roe pattern. Brown painted saya body. CONDITION: Blade has been polished with some areas of scratches visible throughout and some spotted darkness. Mounts are very good with some gilding retained in protected areas but largely showing their copper bases; saya has a few scrapes but is excellent overall. Some verdigris is forming on menuki. Tsuka is tight and presents nicely. A nice example with a late date. EMW
