Measures approximately 26 - 1/8" from Kissaki to munemachi (habaki is frozen, preventing a more exact measurement). Shinogi zukuri form. Nakago with katte sagari yasurime, signed Kanesada on right side in 2 characters, and dated 18th year 10th month of Showa (October 1943) on left side of blade. 2 mekugi-ana. There is a very small seki stamp on left side of nakago and what looks like a Nagoya inspection stamp on right. Standard World War II Gunto mounts with tsuba with floral designs and locking piece on fuchi; koiguchi, koijiri, fuchi, and kashira with normal floral decorations on roe designs. Menuki in the form of chrysanthemums. Same has been dyed black and one side over the mekugi-ana has been damaged, probably from someone trying to force a mekugi through. CONDITION: Blade polish obscures most features including hamon line and hada. Surface scratches from polishing visible throughout. Some pitting on left side, just under yokote. Tsuba is dark with visible copper rubbing through the gilt. Fuchi and kashira are excellent and probably added later considering they are not commensurate with balance of condition. Menuki with dark hand rubbing. Saya with some flaking to paint but a pleasing red-brown color overall. Saya mounts are good with some darkening. EMW
