An extremely scarce and seldom encountered World War II rifle, the G29(o) was initially manufactured by Steyr Solothurn under Columbia's Model 30 rifle contract. After the annexation of Austria, the Luftwaffe, who severely lacked proper armament, assumed control of the Steyr plant, using remaining parts and components to assemble G29(o) rifles briefly between 1938-1939, afterward retooling the factory to produce the K98. This example is stamped with Steyr's "660" manufacturer code above "1938" over the chamber, with Steyr "WaA623" waffentamts on the right, as well as an eagle firing proof on the left. Most small parts and components also bear Steyr "623" waffenamt stamps. Right side of buttstock exhibits a Luftwaffe eagle over "L" stamp above additional Steyr waffenamts. Left side of buttstock has a proper divot cut-out and side-mounted sling swivels. All numbers are matching, with the handguard being stamped on the interior and the stock being stamped on both the interior and exterior. Complete with an unmarked leather sling. CONDITION: Metal components retain good amounts of their original arsenal blue finish, exhibiting scattered areas of wear all around that show through to brown and grey patinas. Buttplate inactive areas of oxidation, retaining a brown color. Bore is bright, exhibiting what appears to be oxidation on the edges on the lands, and retains good rifling throughout. Wood shows scattered handling and storage marks, with a sizeable gouge on the right side of the stock, as well as a crack on either side of the stock at the recoil crossbolt. A nice example of an extremely scarce G29(o) rifle that is seldom encountered outside of the advanced collector's collection. MLW
