Lot consists of: (A) Nice example of a World War II Type 1 split brooch Purple Heart medal. The medal was produced by the U.S. Mint, which was contracted by the U.S. Navy in 1941 to produce 135,000 Purple Heart medals. These medals are made of sterling silver with a gilt finish and were contained in small purple coffin cases. This medal is accompanied by the early purple coffin case as well as a ribbon bar that is marked "STERLING SILVER" on the reverse. CONDITION: The medal and ribbon are very clean. The box is equally clean and exhibits very little blemishing. Overall very good. (B) Another nice example of a WWII Type 1 split brooch Purple Heart medal in early purple coffin case. CONDITION: The medal is very clean and the box is equally clean. The hinge on the box is starting to come loose from wear. Overall very good. (C) Nice example of a WWII Type 2 full wrap brooch Purple Heart medal with ribbon bar in short coffin case. Like the type 1 medals, these were also produced by the U.S. Mint, with only 25,000 produced during the war. The medal is gilt washed over a sterling silver planchet. CONDITION: The medal is in very good condition and presents well. The case is in equal condition to the medal and exhibits little wear. Overall very good. (D) Another nice example of a WWII Type 2 full wrap brooch Purple Heart medal with ribbon bar and lapel pin in short coffin case. CONDITION: The medal, ribbon, and lapel pin are in very good condition with no major blemishes. The case exhibits slight blemishes but is very clean overall. Overall very good. JLD
