Springfield Model 1884 Fox Studios Marked Trapdoor single shot rifle. Made 1889, and later found its way on to movies sets. "137" marked on the chamber, in addition to "V / P / (Eagle head) / P". Under those markings is "FOX STUDIO". "1884" marked breechblock. "BRONCHO M P CO" marked on the left side of the stock. "GPC" marked on the bottom under the circled "P" firing proof. Obliterated cartouche on the left side of the stock as well. "10" stamped on the top of the wrist and on the butt plate in addition to "US" Standard round barrel with blade front sight. Rear sight is absent. Metal finish looks to be original. Holes drilled in the breechblock, and the hammer screw is missing. Stock has its original oil finish. Smooth metal butt plate. Includes paperwork from a previous sale. CONDITION: Metal retains little of its original finish with most areas forming a gray patina. Stock has numerous handling marks, dings and scratches. Comb is missing a large chunk of wood. Bore has some light frosting, but retains strong rifling. Mechanically fine, but use is not recommended due to the holes drilled in the breechblock. PROVENANCE: O'Connors Americana Collection 2018. JWA
