Scarce G29/40 manufactured by Steyr under German occupation after the annexation of Austria. These G29/40 rifles were manufactured for the Luftwaffe, who severely lacked proper armament, and were briefly assembled from remaining components between 1938-1939. Shortly thereafter, the Steyr plant was retooled, to accommodate production of the German K98 rifles. This example is stamped "660/ 1939" over the chamber, with "(Eagle) / 623" waffenamts present on the right side of the receiver. The right side of the buttstock bears an "(Eagle) / L" stamp, indicating issue to the Luftwaffe, above 2 "(Eagle) / 623" waffenamts. "(Eagle) / 623" waffenamts are present on various other small components. All numbers are matching, with the exception of the cocking piece which is mismatched. Rifle is accompanied by an unmarked period leather sling as well as a mismatched "E.uF.Horster" marked bayonet with scabbard and frog. Cleaning rod is not present. CONDITION: Metal components retain bountiful amounts of their arsenal blue finish, exhibiting some small spots of wear and some scattered handling marks overall. Buttplate exhibits cleaned oxidation overall. Bright bore, exhibiting some spots of light oxidation and strong rifling throughout. Stock is very good, exhibiting some scattered marks from handling and storage overall. Upper handguard, shows a few minor losses around the rear sight ladder, but is otherwise fine. Leather sling and bayonet frog shows crazing all around, as well as some age related cracking. Bayonet is very good, exhibiting some spots of wear. A fine example of a scarce Steyr G29/40 bolt action rifle. MLW
