Stevens early 44 action Model 52 single shot rifle made by J. Stevens Arms & Tool Company, Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts circa 1896, early 7 o'clock extractor, action ordered without etching or engraving. Blued 30" half octagon barrel with correct Stevens marking on top flat. Indicative of early 44 Stevens Models, the caliber "38-55" stamping is located on the bottom barrel flat under forearm, folding Beech combination front sight and no rear seat. Case hardened pistol grip takedown 44 action with Schuetzen double set triggers, 4-finger loop lever and Stevens Vernier tang sight. Checkered fancy walnut pistol grip stock with cheekpiece, fitted Stevens Model 52 buttplate. Matching condition Stevens checkered forearm with 2 sets of assembly numbers, number "213" stamped on rear of the forend, with the correct serial number "3468" handwritten in the barrel channel, and appears to be factory workman legitimate. CONDITION: 90% fading to plum barrel blue with 60% vivid case colors. 90% original varnish with forend having approximately 2" sliver of walnut missing near top front left side with usage marks and dings. Triggers out of adjustment. Excellent bore, good rifle mechanically in need of some TLC. Configuration is that of a Model 52 Schuetzen Junior. Description reviewed by Gary Quinlan. DLM/GWQ
