Engraved Ballard No. 6 action, serial number 543, manufactured by J.M. Marlin Firearms Company from 1878 to 1882. 32" No. 4 to 5 weight octagon barrel fitted with Lyman No.17 globe front sight and telescope bases. Barrel is marked "GEO. C. SCHOYEN DENVER, COLO." and is cut for "A.W. PETERSEN" front and rear telescope mounts with 2 additional filled sight dovetails. Barrel has been relined to a .22 caliber with 7 land and groove rifling, maker unknown. The bottom rear barrel flat is lightly hand inscribed "A.O. Zischang". Ballard No. 6 forged action with classic Ballard game scene and scroll engraving fitted with a non-matching Ballard rimfire double set trigger breechblock, 4-finger loop lever, and a Lyman No. 2 tang sight, and a Winchester "A-5" telescope. Old-time custom walnut checkered pistol grip offhand stock with cheekpiece and fitted with a nickel-plated Stevens-Pope style buttplate with through-bolt access hole. Old time custom checkered walnut forearm fitted with a nickel-plated Stevens-Pope style palm rest base, fitted with a very nice custom styled palm rest. CONDITION: 85% original Schoyen browned finish on barrel with extra dovetail, bottom barrel flat under the forearm. Action and lever retain a silvery grey appearance. Buttplate retains 80% original nickel finish. Wood retains 80% of original finish with shooting and handling marks. We believe buttstock is from another rifle, the inside radius of the pistol grip has been noticeably altered to accommodate the lever. Very good shootable bore with light wear ahead of chamber and mechanics. Good optics with perfect crosshairs, lenses need cleaning. Description reviewed by Gary Quinlan. DLM/GWQ
