Forged Ballard single shot action, Model No. 4 - 1/2 Mid-Range. Factory engraved action left side engraved, "Ballard A-1" surrounded by scroll engraved borders, right side, engraved "MID-RANGE" also surrounded by scroll engraved borders as shown in L.D. Nimschke "Book of Engraving". The action is fitted with an original Ballard single trigger breech block with non-matching assembly numbers. Original checkered pistol grip English walnut Ballard mid-range stock fitted with an original Ballard marked checkered hard rubber buttplate with pistol grip horn inlay, again with non-matching assembly numbers. The action is fitted with an original Ballard 30" No. 3 weight part octagon barrel in caliber "32-40" fitted with an original Winchester wind gauge adjustable globe front sight, no rear seat, and fitted with an original Ballard Union Hill Model checkered forend, with non-matching assembly numbers. Original Ballard 4-finger loop lever, early Ballard short base tang sight with an assembled sight staff. CONDITION: 90% original barrel blue with light edge wear and matching condition checkered forend. Action retains an overall silvery gray appearance with light barrel wrench marks with small hole drilled and plugged just partially touching the serial number for some unknown purpose. Wood has been lightly cleaned with a noticeable ding at heel with a few handling marks. Wrist shows commonly seen Ballard stock stress cracks. Excellent bore and mechanics.
