Winchester Model 1885 Highwall action fitted with a Stevens-Pope breech and muzzleloading barrel, false muzzle is missing. Blued 27" No. 4 weight part octagon barrel, caliber .32-40 with Pope's classic 8 land and groove left hand twist rifling, Stevens-Pope barrel number "763", fitted with what appears to be Stevens telescope bases with extra scope mounting holes with filler screws, 3/8" front sight dovetail, top barrel flat marked "Stevens-Pope Manufactured by the J. Stevens Arms and Tool Company, Chicopee Falls, Mass. U.S.A.". Blued flatspring straight grip highwall action fitted with "close coupled - double set" Winchester triggers and nickel plated standard lever. Winchester replacement lower tang without serial number, retaining its October 7, 1879 patent date. Winchester standard grade American walnut stock with a nickel-plated Swiss buttplate. Interesting walnut forearm with Stevens styling, and numbered "653"(?), and drilled for a custom palm rest base. CONDITION: 98% barrel blue with some edge wear. 70% original action bluing showing age flaking. Upper tang has an extra tang sight mounting hole. Nickeled plated components show handling wear. Wood has been cleaned with added coat of linseed oil. Excellent bright and shiny bore and excellent mechanics. Description reviewed by Gary Quinlan. DLM /GWQ
