Winchester Model 1885 Highwall fitted with a 32" No. 4 weight round barrel marked "H.M. POPE". Pistol grip Winchester blued Highwall action with Schuetzen double set triggers. This action, was converted by Mr. Pope from a flatspring to a coil spring and fitted with one of his skeletonized, speedlock hammers and fitted with a Winchester Schuetzen scroll lever. We believe this barrel may not have been originally fitted to this Highwall action "76502". The barrel shank has been professionally sleeved and re-threaded to fit this action with the workmanship being of the highest quality (very Pope-like), it is possible this refitting may have been performed by Mr. Pope. Caliber .33-40 breechloading Jersey City, Pope" barrel, number 146, with Pope's classic 8 land and groove left hand twist rifling. Bottom side of barrel is correctly marked with barrel number "146", fraction "20 / 14.25", dated "6/26/09", and "H.M. POPE". Additionally, there are two mounting screw holes from a previous forend. Winchester checkered pistol grip stock with Dutch style cheekpiece fitted with a Helm buttplate and Winchester hard rubber grip cap. Matching walnut Winchester deluxe checkered forend with ebony inlay and Winchester tuning fork palm rest. Barrel is correctly fitted with a Winchester "A-5" telescope. CONDITION: 90% fading barrel blue mixed with shooting wear. 90% fading action blue. Lever has faded to a silvery gray. Stock retains traces of its original varnish with some usage marks and a very fine period repair at wrist. Excellent, bright, shiny bore showing some signs of shooting wear. Good mechanics and clear optics. Description reviewed by Gary Quinlan. DLM/GWQ
