Winchester Model 1885 Thickside flat spring Highwall single shot rifle made by Winchester Repeating Arms Company in 1890. Blued 30" round Winchester No. 3 weight barrel with Winchester address, caliber "45 EX" and British proofs. Blade front sight and folding 3-leaf Winchester express rear barrel sight with platinum sighting bars. Beautifully case colored Thickside express action with plain trigger and case colored standard lever. Standard grade walnut straight grip stock with early smooth metal shotgun buttplate, matching Winchester standard grade forend. The stock has number "10066" stamped just below the lower tang; possibly a British rack number? Cody Research confirms all options and the production date of 1890. CONDITION: 90% barrel blue with handling marks and some discoloration. 90% slightly faded strong case colors. Buttstock and forend retain quite a bit of their original finish mixed with signs of heavy use, dings, handling marks, and small hairline crack on forearm. Excellent bright bore with sticky mechanics from old grease. Interesting rifle. Description reviewed by Gary Quilan. DLM/GWQ
