Very nice early Army Air Corps photo album with great content named to Isaac W. Ott on the front cover. Ott was born in Osyka, Mississippi, on April 6, 1903 and would later attend Louisiana State University and the University of Kentucky where he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. After college, he enlisted as a Flying Cadet on August 29, 1927, and was appointed a Second Lieutenant in the Air Reserve on June 23, 1928 and was later commissioned a Second Lieutenant of Air Corps, Regular Army, on May 2, 1929. Ott continued to serve through the 1930s and held positions such as Squadron Engineering Officer and Squadron Operations and Intelligence Officer. During World War II he became Chief of the Maintenance Division, Kelly Field, Texas, and the following June was named Deputy Commander, 401st Air Depot, in the European Theater of Operations. He assumed command of the 1st Base Air Depot, and later the Deputy Commander, an then Commander of the VIII Air Force Service Command, to name a few of the commands he held. Throughout his career, he was rated as a command pilot, combat observer and aircraft observer. The album is from his early years in the Army Air Corps and dates between the 1920s and 1930s. There are many photos of Ott and his comrades that are laid out over 72 pages. The content of the photos are great and they depict early Air Corps aircraft, both in flight and on the ground, photos of barracks, vehicles, training, and family. There are also photos of aviation accidents and photos taken following aircraft crashes where Ott and his friends would climb around the wreckage and "play dead" for photos. There are also a few nice portait photos of Ott in his early uniform and nice aerial photos. CONDITION: Some of the photos exhibit fading, and it appears as though some were overexposed. Most of the photos are clear and their edges remain sharp. Some exhibit scattered stains. The album is well put together and remains sturdy. Overall very good. JLD
