Prewar "Unteroffizier" artillery dress tunic dated 1938. These Waffenrocks were worn until 1940 and were generally stored at home during the war. Tunic is made from a fine quality tricot wool tunic, with no visible holes and stains, and exhibits light moth tracking throughout, mainly between the shoulders on the back. Tunic is marked "M38", with size stamps, and a nice artillery regiment marking which is unfortunately partially illegible. The tunic is lined in an olive rayon with light stains. Collar is green wool with red wool piping for the artillery branch, with machine sewn flat wire NCO tress. The green wool exhibits a couple of tiny holes of moth damage, and the red piping exhibits moderate moth damage on the back. The collar tabs are red backed, and are machine sewn with flat wire Litzen. The sewn-in shoulder straps are green wool with red piping, with flat wire NCO tress for a junior sergeant. The left shoulder strap has heavy moth damage underneath, and there is a 1" hand stitch on the top to support the strap. Each strap has "38" cyphers present. A green wool backed flat wire eagle is hand sewn to the right breast, but appears to have been reapplied. Sleeve cuffs are dark green wool with flat wire NCO tress, red piping, and red backed flat wire Litzen. All the buttons on the tunic are matching and era sewn. CONDITION: Overall very good to excellent. WEZ
