Kentucky Plains style half stock percussion rifle made by "J.P. GEMMER" in St. Louis, Missouri circa 1865. Gemmer purchased the Hawken gunshop and continued there until 1915. Gun has 40" octagon barrel with 6 groove rifling and is stamped near breech "J.P. GEMMER ST. LOUIS". Barrel has German silver blade front sight and rear fixed heavy buckhorn rear notch sight. Barrel has percussion patent breech ignition with "JOS GOLCHER" marked percussion lock with double set trigger control. Hardwood half stock with two German silver escutcheon plates with flat keys and pewter nosecap and cheekpiece. Stock has iron buttplate and double finger spur trigger guard. Comes with original-looking hardwood ramrod. CONDITION: Metal is fading to a plum patina with some light surface corrosion. Wood has been cleaned with added coat of light oil. Shootable bore with good mechanics. DLM
