Lot consists of: (A) 1870-1880s studio image of a Plains Indian girl wearing a buckskin dress and moccasins. ID'd on the reverse in black ink "Bertha Sunbear." Measures: 6" x 4 - 1/4." (B) 1834 black and white map of North America, published by Samuel Walker. Map depicts Indian tribes, mountains, rivers, and Mexican territory from the southwest border all the way to Oregon. Northwest U.S. shown as Russian, and west of the Great Salt Lake is listed as "western limits of this lake are unknown." Fascinating details in the early days of Manifest Destiny. Measures: 8.5" x 11." (C) Lot of 8 early 1800's newspapers (Columbian Centinel, Boston, Connecticut Courant) that feature content like Michigan Indian Treaty of 1809, Battle of Detroit lost, Michigan formed 1805, Michigan statehood, Detroit retaken, Detroit burned, and battles of the War of 1812. CONDITION: All items show age commensurate wear with some foxing to the map and rubbing to fold lines and edges on the newspapers and photo. Overall all items are suited for display or framing. BRM.
