While superficially resembling a Tranter, this intriguing little revolver is completely devoid of the normal Tranter markings and instead only marked with a pair of Birmingham proofs on the octagonal barrel, and further Birmingham proofs over each cylinder chamber. Tranter is speculated to have subcontracted with other Birmingham makers and this may be an example of such work. Octagonal barrel with top flat very narrow and hosting a bead front sight. Microgroove rifling. Right side of barrel with a rammer assembly for removing spent cartridges. Right side of recoil shield flips down for loading/unloading. Spur trigger. Frame with rear spur for web of hand. 2 piece fully checkered walnut stocks. Frame is lightly engraved with double lined borders. CONDITION: Good. Barrel retains much of the high polish blue mixed with areas of brown patina coming though, and some flashes of dove grey at the high edges. Frame is essentially a chocolate patina with flashes of dove grey visible and some flashes of high polish bluing visible in the most protected areas. Stocks are very good with some handling marks throughout and one minor ship on right scale. Mechanically fine, bore is very good with visible rifling and some frosting throughout. This is an intriguing little revolver. EMW
