Sharps Model 1874 single shot made by the Sharps Rifle Company, Bridgeport, Connecticut circa the 1880's. Blued 30'" octagon barrel which measures 15/16" across barrel flats at muzzle. Barrel is marked with Bridgeport address and "OLD RELIABLE" with caliber marking of "CAL 45 2 6/10" on left, right above forearm. Underside of barrel is stamped "1901" which does not match serial number of gun. Barrel has German silver sheared blade front sight and rear graduated flip sight marked "RS LAWRENCE PATENTED FEB 15TH 1859". Case hardened double set trigger action with lock being a converted percussion lock and marked "C. SHARP'S PAT OCT 5TH 1852" with serial number C10277 on tang. Action was probably originally a saddle ring carbine for on left side is remnants of the "1848" marking and ground ring bar stud. Walnut stock with steel buttplate and plugged ring bar stud area. Walnut splinter 2-screw forearm with rear screw missing. CONDITION: Metal fading to a silvery patina with some light corrosion. Wood has traces of finish with usage marks and dings and forearm possibly cleaned long ago. Shootable bore with light rifling and good crisp mechanics. DLM
