1891 Vintage Colt Single Action Army revolver, serial number 138571. Blue with case hardened hammer and blackpowder style frame. 7 - 1/2" barrel roll die marked "Colt Frontier Six Shooter". Chambered in .44-40 WCF cartridge. 2-piece black hard rubber grips, checkered with Rampant Colt and Eagle motifs. Accompanying Colt Archive letter dated April 3, 1996, signed by Kathleen J. Hoyt, Historian. Letter documents configuration and shipment on February 26, 1891 to W.J. Rainey, Mayor Fayette Co., Pennsylvania with second address referenced, George Worthington Hardware Company Cleveland, Ohio. Revolver was one in a shipment of 12 of same type. Interestingly serial 138571 has a number "3" stamped on the left side of the frame. Possibly an inventory number for county government use as letter documents 12 guns shipped to the Mayor of Fayette Co. Pennsylvania. Deserves further research. CONDITION: Excellent with 92-95% bright original blue and mostly mottled case colors with generous areas of bright color. Grips show modest wear with a small dent on the bottom of left panel. Action is tight and crisp. Bore is bright and crisp. Interesting blackpowder Single Action that deserves additional research. MKS
