In an accompanying letter dated March 15, 1957 signed by Lewis Schwartzman of Alamo Leather Goods Co. of San Antonio Texas to noted Colt collector Herb Glass Sr., Mr. Schwartzman documents that his company purchased 140 Colt Single Action Army revolvers from the San Antonio Texas Police Department on July 1, 1949. Serial number 351138 is listed as one of the 140 guns purchased and has been regarded by later collectors as the highest condition of those guns known. Mr. Glass makes a profound observation in a letter he writes on May 6, 1966 regarding these guns: "Interestingly enough, the last city in the United States to carry Single Action Colts as police guns was San Antonio Texas. These were carried until after World War II. I think this is extremely interesting when one realizes that a cosmopolitan city of over a half million people was policed with great reliable old .45 caliber Six-Shooters!" Blue with case hardened frame and hammer and a 4 - 3/4" barrel chambered in .45 LC. 2-piece checkered, black hard rubber grips with Rampant Colt motif. Factory inscribed on the butt: "S.A.P.D. No. 35". Accompanying Colt Archival Letter dated May 3, 1966 to Herb Glass and signed by R.H. Wagner, Colt's Spare Parts Supervisor documents configuration and notes Special Markings "SAPD NO.35 on butt". Letter further documents shipment to the City of San Antonio Texas on October 18,1927 in a shipment of 50 guns. Included with the revolver is the period correct SAPD Hat Badge No. 35. CONDITION: Excellent+ with over 95% bright original blue remaining. Only light wear to the barrel muzzle a a light scratch and ding on the barrel muzzle. Most all slightly fading original case color remaining on the frame and hammer. Bore is bright and clean. Action is tight and crisp. Grips are excellent showing minimum wear. Overall has the appearance of being used very little. A great Single Action with well documented Texas history. MKS
