Less than 1,000 Flat Top Colt Single Action Army Target Model revolvers were produced. This late example, serial number 316788 was originally shipped to Albert Foster Jr. on February 7, 1911. Mr. Foster was manager of Colt's New York Office and was known to special order single action revolvers for his personal collection, and he amassed a collection of some of the finest known today. Serial number 316788 has a 7 - 1/2" barrel, chambered in .45 LC caliber. Full highly polished blue finish with case hardened hammer and fire blued screws. 2-piece checkered, black hard rubber grips with Rampant Colt motif. Pictured on page 263 of R.L. Wilson's "The Book of Colt Firearms". Accompanying the revolver is a Colt Archival Letter dated June 6, 1979, signed by Marty S. Huber, Historian. Letter documents configuration and shipment to Albert Foster Jr., Colt Patent Firearms Co. New York, New York on February 7, 1911 in a single gun shipment. Also accompanying the revolver is a letter dated May 25, 1967 from R.L. Wilson to Robert Q. Sutherland verifying Colt's records and configuration of serial number 316788. A third important letter is included from Norm Flayderman dated April 12, 1967 documenting the sale of serial number 316788 to Mr. Sutherland. In the text of the letter Mr. Flayderman notes prior ownership by Albert Foster and makes mention "Larry" can provide a factory letter. CONDITION: Near mint with 96-98% of the exquisite bright original high polish blue remaining. Bore is bright and clean. Unmolested bright screws. Action is tight and crisp. Grips are near mint with the exception of a slight stress fracture on the left panel at the screw. Virtually all the original case color remaining on the hammer. This is an exceptional revolver that would be near impossible to improve on with an impeccable pedigree. MKS
