1899 Vintage Colt Sheriff's Model Single Action Army revolver, serial number 188101. It is estimated that less than 1,200 pre-World War II Single Action Armies with ejectorless frames were manufactured, and the .38-40 WCF chambering being one of the most scarce. Blue with case hardened frame and hammer. 3 - 1/2" barrel with correct 2-line barrel address. 2-line patent dates and Rampant Colt in circle located on the left side of the frame. 2-piece checkered black hard rubber grips with Rampant Colt motif. Accompanying the revolver is a Colt Archival Letter dated February 14, 2005, signed by Kathleen J. Hoyt, Historian. Letter documents .38-40 caliber, 3 - 1/2" barrel, blue with grips not listed, shipped to A. Baldwin & Company New Orleans, Louisiana on July 31, 1899 in a shipment of 10 guns of the same type. CONDITION: Excellent with approximately 80-85% original blue on the barrel mixed with blue/brown patina. 75-80% original blue on the cylinder mixed with patina, and 85+% original blue on the trigger guard and backstrap. Excellent bright, unmolested original screws. Strong areas of original case colors mixed with patina on the frame. Excellent bore. Action is tight and crisp. Grips are excellent showing minimum wear. Overall a most desirable and rare variation of the Colt Single Action Army revolver. MKS
