The rarest of all combination guns, this "Funfling", or five-barrel gun, is made by Peter Oberhammer of Munich, Germany, circa 1890. Oberhammer is known for strange guns and this one is no letdown. It has 4 rifle barrels in a half-circle above a 16 gauge shotgun. Calibers from left to right are 9.3x82R, followed by two in 9.1x52R, and finally a 11x74R over the 16 gauge shotgun. The gun has a raised matted rib with a ramped front blade sight and fixed rear notch with remnants of Oberhammer's name on the rib. Even without the name this gun has several devices that were patented by Oberhammer and seem to be a trait on his guns. One of his patented items is the barrel selector switch which allows the shooter to switch on each hammer between rifle barrels and, on the right, hammer the shotgun. The other is his patented folding tang peep sight. Barrels are of fluid steel and blued and are most likely Krupp Steel, but have no markings. Gun has line engraved blued unmarked back action locks controlled by 2 triggers, which are both sets. Triggers are protected by a pierced horn trigger guard. Gun has European walnut stock with German-style accentuated cheekpiece with checkered straight grip and blued steel trap buttplate. Horn underlever opener with blued frame and walnut checkered splinter forearm with European style flat bow sling swivels. A true work of gunsmithing and engineering hardly ever seen. CONDITION: 90% fading blue with some carry and handling wear. 90% original varnish with some light scratches and dings. Some slight marking on hinge pin from taking it apart. Good bores with tight lockup and mechanics. A great rare gun! DLM
