Lot consists of (A) 1891 pattern Spanish officer's eagle head sword machete. This type of blade was used in service during the Spanish American War. The hatched point blade exhibits a dark gray patina and was dulled, resharpened, and later dulled at the point. There are faint markings on either side of the blade, the left side is marked "No 87" while the maker's mark on the right side is illegible. The hilt exhibits a Spanish Eagle pommel, and is crafted of solid nickel silver alloy. There are two checkered grip scales which are held in place by 3 screws on each side. CONDITION: The blade exhibits scattered pitting and several chips on the edge. The right side grip is cracked and separating from the area towards the guard, but remains sturdy. Overall fair. (B) 1891 pattern Spanish officer's eagle head sword machete complete with scabbard. The hatched point blade exhibits a dark gray patina and is marked "CORONA & CIA / ACERO FUNDIDO" below a crown. The hilt exhibits a Spanish Eagle pommel that exhibits a brown patina. There are two checkered grip scales which are held in place by two screws on each side. CONDITION: The blade exhibits slight pitting as well as several chips and dents on the edge. There are dents and pitting on the guard with handling wear evident on the grips. The scabbard is stiff and exhibits various creases and cracks in the leather. Overall good. JLD
