4th model saddle ring carbine originally shipped from the warehouse May 28, 1881, but returned from New York July 16, 1881 as per factory letter. This carbine has been professionally restored and embellished. Blued 20" round barrel chambered in .44 RF and restamped with 2-line Winchester address and caliber marking. Barrel band front sight and 2-position leaf rear sight. Receiver has been nickel plated and engraved with 4 game scene vignettes, surrounded by floral scroll over punch dot backgrounds. Side plate vignettes are engraved each with a buck and doe. Front left vignette features a proudly standing buck, while its right counterpart features an American bison. Case hardened hammer and lever. Stocks are plain walnut with blued retaining band and nickel finished carbine butt with tool compartment. Heel of butt plate scroll engraved to match receiver. Rifle is accompanied by a factory letter. CONDITION: Very fine as restored and embellished. Virtually all of the blued finish is retained on barrel. Vast majority of nickel also retained with some light thinning to brass on receiver and some loss at heel of butt plate. Replacement stocks fine with a light abrasion on left side of stock. Very good bore and mechanics. An attractive embellished 1866! BAS
