Remington revolving percussion rifle made by E. Remington & Sons, Ilion, New York between 1866 and 1879 with an estimated less than 1,000 made. Octagon blued 28" rifled .36 caliber barrel with serial number 535 in front of loading lever; otherwise unmarked. Serial number "535" is marked on barrel, loading lever, cylinder axle, cylinder, upper and lower frame, and stock. Case hardened frame with blued 6-shot 2 - 3/16" cylinder. Unusual German silver trigger bow and crescent buttplate (correct configuration but usually made of brass or iron). Buttplate has name in script "Mrs. W. H. Yates". Famous painter of the day named "W.H. Yates"; could it be his wife? Correct longer loading lever. Walnut plain stock with crescent German silver buttplate and toeplate. Hard to find rifle. CONDITION: Overall good with 70% fading barrel blue. Cylinder has 40% fading bright blue. 20% fading case colors with balance turning a plum color. Wood has 70% original varnish with light handling and usage marks. Good bore with visible rifling. Good crisp mechanics. DLM
