Spanish Contract Model 1893 Mauser bolt action rifle. Made "1896" as marked on the chamber, below a sharp Spanish crest. Loewe "Star of David" proofs on the left side of the receiver before the company address. No import mark found. Matching serials on the numbered components, including the rear sight. Cleaning rod does not match. Stock is not numbered. Standard blade front sight and rear ladder adjustable to 2,000 meters. Metal has a military blued finish turning to a dark grayish patina in most areas. Stock was lightly sanded (possibly at an arsenal), and has a light oil finish. CONDITION: Metal retains 60% of its finish, with most areas forming a gray patina. Stock is excellent. with a few handling marks. Bore is lightly frosted, but retains crisp rifling. JWA
