Springfield Model 1863 Percussion rifle. Lock is dated "1863", with typical markings. No visible proofs on the barrel or cartouches on the stock. Standard blade front sight and 2 position rear. Rear sight is stuck in the up position. Metal has been polished with a light coat of finish added. Wood has its correct light oil finish. Smooth metal butt plate marked "US" on the top. CONDITION: Metal shows signs of polishing, with some light pitting visible under the re-applied finish. Wood has handling marks and scratches. Wood has handling marks and scratches. Bore is heavily frosted with fair rifling. Tight hammer. Nipple is well formed showing little signs of use. JWA
