Medium size OVM (Ohio Volunteer Militia) belt plate. See O’Donnell & Campbell, Plate 553. A scarce plate with few issued and no matching cartridge box plate known. Single arrow stud and belt hook like some early US 1839 pattern plates, but production date estimated to be 1861. State issue plates of any sort are tough to find and usually early war. CONDITION: Fair. Excavated condition. Gray/brown patina. Scattered light green spotting. Rim loss at right, short crack at left. Expanded lead fill on reverse with corrosion losses, but both hooks in place. Consignor notes indicate recovery from Antietam Creek. SR
