Scarce Winchester Model 70 in carbine configuration in rare special order caliber .35 Whelen made by Winchester Repeating Arms Company in 1946. Blued 20" round Winchester Proof Steel barrel with hooded ramp front sight and rear plugged sight boss. Barrel is marked "WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL-MODEL 70-WINCHESTER TRADEMARK-.35 WHELEN". Barrel is marked on underside "35W" and dated "41". Pre-War style action with matted finish, Lyman 48 peep sight, cartridge slot, and front drilled bridge with no holes in rear bridge. Solid handle bolt with Pre-War style 3-position wing safety and electropenciled with "55142" which matches serial number of gun. Walnut low comb stock with Widow's Peak checkered steel buttplate, and checkered pistol grip. Blued steel detachable floorplate with bow sling swivels. CONDITION: 90% barrel blue with some wear on corners and carry areas. 90% action finish with carry wear and scratching on floorplate and action. Bolt handle starting to turn slightly silver from use. Wood has 90% original finish with some flaking and some usage dings and marks. Good bore and mechanics and shoots well! DLM
