Circa 1885. An early bar-in-wood percussion 12 bore shotgun with dovetail brown 30" Damascus steel barrels. Barrels are fit with extractors and 2 - 1/2" chambers. Rib is concave and tapered with small round front bead sight. Rib reads "WESTLEY RICHARDS & CO. LONDON". Nitro reproof in London, 1997. The lockplates are engraved with scrolls and "WESTLEY RICHARDS & CO" on upper action bar. The engraved blacked top lever reads "WESTLEY RICHARDS PATENT". The action is fit with rebounding hammers, double triggers, and doll's head third fastener. The reddish-brown tiger-striped walnut stock has an English straight hand grip with fine flat top diamond-shaped checkering, vacant gold stock oval and steel buttplate. The English straight hand grip is protected by a long engraved bottom tang with serial number "6309". Full-length walnut splinter forend with early innovative locking mechanism, horn tip, matched checkering, and engraved Deeley type lever release. CONDITION: Good. Barrels retain 85% brown with slight freckling on left side near breech and alongside forend. Forend has been repaired on right side near tip and is frayed on left side edge near tip. It is in the expert's opinion that the gun benefits from an earlier restock. Handling and storage marks. CP
