1889 vintage Winchester Model 1873 Semi-Deluxe Short Rifle, serial number 297736. 19" octagon barrel in .38 WCF with rifle rear sight, full-length magazine tube, and blade front. Case colored frame, lever, and hammer. Upper tang is drilled and tapped for tang sight. "2394 CF" assembly number found on lower tang with matching "2394" assembly number found on upper tang of stock with stock removed. Serial number correctly runs the width of the lower tang rather than length. 2-piece plain straight grain walnut forearm with blued forearm cap and pistol grip stock with ebony insert and rifle buttplate with storage compartment in butt (compartment is empty). CONDITION: Excellent, with an attractive amount of the original bluing remaining on barrel, magazine tube, and forearm cap with scattered handling marks throughout and a brown patina beginning to form. Frame, lever, and hammer have turned a dull grey overall with faint traces of original case colors remaining. Stock and forearm are very good with handling marks throughout but no visible cracks. Action is tight and crisp. Bore is frosted with moderate abrasion throughout from use with corrosive powder with visible rifling. A better than average condition example in a desirable configuration.
