Mauser Oberndorf M98 Mauser commercial sporter bolt action rifle. Made 1909 as marked on the chamber under the company address. This is a desirable factory pre-War Commercial Sporter rifle marked with the Assembly proof of "(Crown) / B" and a final proof of "(Crown) / U" exclusively used for Mauser Sporters made prior to 1924. Full company name on left side of receiver wall, stock marked "26790 (horizontal H)" on inside of forearm, seen on Sporter stocks: rounded pistol grip, slim forend, narrow barrel band with screw in swivel, and intertwined "WFM" on buttplate further point to early, pre-War, Model B production. Matching 26790 serial number observed on barrel, receiver, rear of box magazine, partial numbers observed on bolt release, safety, bolt, and top flat of bolt handle. Matted ramp bead front sight, 1000 meter adjustable rear sight. Double set triggers. CONDITION: Metal retains 60% of its original finish with general wear and some areas forming a brown patina. Stock has handling marks and scratches. Bore is frosted with good overall rifling. Mechanically fine.
