Thomas Conway is recorded at Manchester circa 1803-1869. Damascus octagonal barrel with mushroom front sight, notch rear sight mounted to action. Lined engraving at muzzle. Birmingham proofs visible on lower left side of barrel, repeated on the action. Patent breech. German silver boxlock action and ramrod channel; boxlock action with open scroll engraving and signed on top "CONWAY / MANCHESTER". Fishform hammer with scroll engraving en suite. Ramrod with flat head probably the original, given that it fits correctly into the channel. Folding trigger mechanism with floral engraving around trigger. Bag grip with wave checkering with vacant space at wrist with silver lozenge for initials, unengraved. CONDITION: Barrel has been cleaned in the European style over some old oxidation, with dark spotting remaining; Damascus twist still nicely visible. Some tarnishing to German silver in protected areas. Engraving is crisp throughout. Fishform hammer has some flashes of case color visible on rear where it would have been protected by the frame when resting on the nipple. Recoil shield on hammer is damaged with front damaged and spots of oxidation on nipple and cock. Stock is very good with some bumps and bruises throughout but free of cracks or chips; some heads abraded. Mechanically fine, bore is good with a minimum of oxidation. A nice example. EMW
