Russian Tula Berdan Type II bolt action rifle. Made 1879 at the Tula Arms factory, as marked on the barrel, in front of the rear sight. Crisp Imperial eagle on the chamber. Faint cartouche on the right side of the stock. No import mark found. Matching serials on the bolt components, but bolt does not match the barrel. Butt plate is mismatched as well. Stout blade front sight with rear ladder. Rear sight is missing its spring. Metal finish looks to be original with some areas showing signs of brown patina. Stock has a light oil finish. Smooth metal butt plate. CONDITION: Metal retains little finish, with most areas forming a brown patina. Stock has minor dings, scratches and handling marks. Bore is clean with strong rifling. Mechanically fine. JWA
