Classic circa 1940 vintage Winchester Model 70 in .30-06 caliber. Standard weight 24" proof steel blued barrel. Hooded ramp front sight with rear dovetail plugged. Pre-War cloverleaf style receiver tang with receiver drilled and tapped for Griffin & Howe side mount and Lyman rear sight, with sight insert not present. Likely factory configured for the Griffin & Howe side mounted Lyman Alaskan 2.5X scope with post and line reticle, noted in Rule's book page 248. The Lyman scope is a Non-All weather, SN 2653, that is period correct. Bolt correctly electropenciled with matching serial number to receiver. Low comb walnut pistol grip stock with fine checkering, sling swivels, and checkered widows peak butt plate. CONDITION: Very good. Vast majority of factory applied blued finish is retained with areas thinning to gray patina towards muzzle, on bolt handle, on trigger guard, and on butt plate. Some pin prick oxidation on floor plate. Stock good showing handling marks. Fine bright bore with strong rifling. Fine mechanics. Scope has wear, especially around front lens. Optics somewhat clouded but usable as is. BAS
